Le Chameau Women’s Vierzonord boots are the most comfortable walking boot/rubber/wellington boots I have ever worn. From the moment I put them on with their striking bright blue neoprene lining and felt the support and structure of the Cross sole underneath my feet, I sensed and experienced sizable the difference between my last boots, and these ones.

In the same way, when you meet your new boyfriend, you start to see even more holes in your past relationship, wearing a pair or the Vierzonord is comparable to stepping out in a decent coat in the cold instead of a t-shirt. I realise that might seem an odd analogy but when one looks at investing the better part of almost two hundred notes, you want to know that the relationship you will be starting with these boots is going to be one of the best in your life. I can tell you it is, and once you have worn a pair of the Vierzonord you will struggle to wear anything out again. In fact the relationship you begin with these boots may endure longer than some you have had with past partners.

The price tag may be a deterrent for some, but what one needs to consider when looking at what may be viewed an investment purchase is what you are actually getting for your money. These aren’t your average basic rubber boots, with thin sides and soles without support. Instead, you will find the Vierzonord is made with exceptional attention to detail. The first thing you will notice about these boots is their reinforced gusset side detailing and the interior neoprene lining. For those of you not familiar with neoprene this is what they in the past, used to make wetsuits out of and has incredibly insulating properties which prevent the wearer’s body heat from dissipating. (Comfort rated as low as -15C). As someone with a medical condition that means my circulation is poor and my extremities are often freezing, insulation and warmth are crucial. Once I get cold, I find it hard to get warm again, so clothing that keeps heat from escaping is a blessing.

Natural rubber and neoprene allow these boots to flex easily with any foot movement, and the Le Chameau signature adjustable waterproof gusset with tightening strap and snap-fastening buckle allows you to have a secure fit around the calf. While also allowing enough space to allow you to wear thick socks or get your jeans crammed in. The strap itself is made of thick strapping and the end is sealed with a plastic block so that you won’t lose the strap through the buckle the other way. The gusset and the back of the boots are reinforced and because the boot has its internal lining there are no ridges along the front of the boot which might rub against you.

The sole of the Vierzonord is made with a dual density cross sole which absorbs shock. To test these out I did some clambering around, jumping and yes, you do notice a huge difference in support! The boots solid structure around the ankle and upper leg area helped support my ankle so that on uneven ground I didn’t feel as vulnerable as I did in my last boots. Inside the sole is a shank reinforcement board that provides arch support and stabilises your foot which is said to reduce fatigue. But what really made me excited was the outsole. On most boots, you have simple grooves but the Vierzonord has grip similar to what you might expect of all weather tires. The tread is market and grooved and even on slippery surfaces, I was able to maintain my walking position with ease. Mud is no longer a worry for slipping over in as the boots grip and provide traction so that you don’t need to worry about falling as I often have in the past.

Sizing is made conveniently easy to understand with the Master Bootmaker factoring in the room for thick socks and jeans so my normal boot size was a perfect fit. Finally, what struck me was the weight of these boots. As someone who easily tires heavy walking boots is not a sensible addition to my life, as I become too exhausted wearing them. In contrast, there is enough weight with the Vierzonord that I felt study and supported but not so heavy that my feet were dragged down. This is a challenging balance to achieve in a pair of walking boots or wellingtons

There are three colours available in this design. Vert Chameau, which is a woodland almost green khaki colour. The Vert Verizon which is much lighter spring green and the finally the Marron Fonce which is a darker green/brown. Le Chameau boots come with a reputation. When I asked around about what the best wellington boots, were, there was a resounding chorus that if money wasn’t an issue, Le Chameau was where it was at, and Le Chameau is known to last for years while their competitors sometimes barely see a year.

I want you to take a moment to think about what shoes or boots you wear most. In the same way, the investment in a mattress is one that should not be taken lightly, if like me your favourite activities are always outside in the fresh air, a boot which you daily wear must support you and protect you from the elements. I am in recovery from a liver transplant caused due to an incurable autoimmune disease that leads me to lose some days to fatigue. The times I am fit enough to get out are precious, and I relish the time out in the countryside with my faithful, unofficial companion puppy Bella.

My love of wellington boots was cemented during my time at University in Durham. During the winter weather, the streets often become torrents of running water, and I realised that the best foot attire was going to be one that I could use both for my tramping around in the woods but also getting to a from lectures. Since normal life ended, I have lived in a pair of wellington boots which just before Christmas began to cause me concern. Not only did the boots seem to be falling to bits, but they had also started to hurt. Puddles were deep. Mud aplenty and I fell over several times which affected my confidence in going out.

I contacted Le Chameau to ask if I might be able to borrow a pair of boots just to wear around the house and was blown away when firstly it transpired that their CEO had had an autoimmune disease but also that they wanted to show me how good the boots were by allowing me to properly review them. Only by wearing, walking, getting them muddy and using them to get me out and about did I really discover what level of quality these boots were made of, and in a blind wear test with some of their competitors, they were easily reconcilable.

Am I convinced? Am I now a convert to the French brand?

Yes.
